The police arrested Scottie Scheffler, the world number one golfer, this Friday, May 17 after refusing to comply. He was scheduled to make it to the second round of the PGA Championship.
World number one golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested and handcuffed Friday morning, May 17, when he allegedly attempted to bypass a police checkpoint on his way to the Valhalla course in Louisville. He was due to play the second round of the PGA Championship, according to American media.
Scheffler allegedly refused to stop at the request of a police officer who was regulating traffic around the golf club, where a fatal accident that occurred before the player's arrival had created a huge traffic jam, according to the same source.
In a video posted on X by ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, Scheffler can be seen handcuffed behind his back and taken to be placed in the back of a police car.
In that video, police can be heard yelling at witnesses to back off, and an officer telling them “now he's going to jail and there's nothing you can do about it.”
The second round of the PGA Championship was delayed by 80 minutes “due to the accident which occurred near the course and in which a pedestrian was killed by a bus”, announced the PGA citing the police.
