Rafael Nadal is enjoying his final year as a professional tennis player. Undermined by injuries for a year and a half, the Majorcan hopes to be able to perform well at Roland-Garros. Two years earlier, Roger Federer had retired and hopes that today people remember him more as a person than as a player.
At the start of the week, qualifying began Roland Garros and Rafael Nadal is already there Door d'Auteuil. On the Philippe Chatrier court, he was able to see his enormous popularity during his public training sessions which attracted many people.
Nadal wants to be remembered as a personality
Last week, Rafael Nadal spoke about his upcoming retirement: “ Ultimately what will make me proud and happy is when I leave this world, what the tournament directors, the people who work in the tournaments, the staff, the ATP, say about the person I was on the circuit, or what I am as a person more than as a tennis player. Because as a tennis player, in the end, we have the titles, we have the successes and that's how it is.»
“If I am remembered more as a personality than as a player, that would be great”
In comments reported byWe Love Tennis s, Roger Federer also agrees with Rafael Nadal : “I hope that I will be remembered not only as a tennis player, but also as a person, for what I gave to the game and what I meant to the game, and not only for my victories at Wimbledon or for any other event that would mean a lot to me. If I'm remembered more as a personality than as a player, that would be great. And if I was a good role model for children, that would make me happy too… And it would be nice, like Rafa said, if people were happy to see us again. Not like 'oh no, that guy again' (laughs).»
