MLB: the Toronto Blue Jays hold out against the Pittsburgh Pirates | RDS


Daniel Vogelbach produced two runs on a double in the fifth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays held on 5-4 against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday in Toronto.

Despite a late push from former Jays Rowdy Tellez in the ninth inning, reliever Yimi Garcia finished the job by striking out three batters. Tellez had three hits and drove in all four runs in the loss.

Toronto (28-30) wins the three-game series against the Pirates (27-32) and has five wins in their last six games.

Playing the game at third base, Vladimir Guerrero Jr had one hit in four at-bats. It was the first time since his rookie season in 2019 that he started a game at this position.

Starter Chris Bassitt reached the milestone of 1,000 innings pitched in major league baseball. He allowed three earned runs and eight hits while collecting seven strikeouts in five innings of work.

Relievers Chad Green, Trevor Richards and Nate Pearson all pitched a scoreless inning.

Dalton Varsho scored twice and hit the trail three times.
