Arman Tsarukyan praised Islam Makhachev for his performance at UFC 302. The Armenian talent also expressed his desire to face the champion.

Islam Makhachev continued to show his prowess with his victory in the main event of UFC 302 (all results here). The Dagestani thus remains the UFC lightweight champion. The submission victory over Dustin Poirier now raises questions about what happens next.

Will Dustin Poirier retire? He brought it up multiple times, but after the fight, he explained that he might fight again. Dana White, CEO of the UFC, leaves the door to the octagon wide open for him.

For Makhachev, this is no secret. He would like to become a double champion and therefore face the champion of welterweights. It would be either Leon Edwards or his friend Belal Muhammad, as the two will face off in the main event from UFC 304 in Manchester. However, many people believe that the next logical step would be a title defense against a challenger in size.

Tsarukyan suggests that Makhachev is trying to run away from him

In a response on

Congratulations to Islam! But don't try to run away to another division. You've only defended your title once against a true lightweight, and I'm next in line. »

Tsarukyan appears to have become the next contender for the lightweight title thanks to his victory over Charles Oliveira in a decisive fight at UFC 300. Islam Makhachev's next fight could be at UFC 308 , which will take place on October 26 and will be the card of the pay-per-view from Abu Dhabi this year. Makhachev also hinted that he would fight again on American soil, specifically at Madison Square Garden the following month. For now, nothing is official.
