Dustin Poirier has yet to decide whether he will continue his MMA career following his fifth-round submission loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302. But given the list of injuries suffered during a grueling fight for the title as lightweight champion, it appears he will spend a good portion of his time recovering.
“The nose is broken, a rib is broken and my anterior cruciate ligament is partially torn,” Poirier revealed on X on Wednesday.
Poirier, 35, put in a courageous effort and showed exceptional resilience in the face of adversity against the UFC's number one fighter. He survived multiple submission attempts, fought off a series of takedowns and fought for nearly 25 minutes before succumbing to a choke in the final round.
After the fight, Poirier told reporters that he “maybe damaged” his ACL while defending a hold from Makhachev in the third or fourth round of the fight.
