Cognac: the golf club reaches the 2nd national division

Aged from 14 to 36, the six players on this team come from the Cognac region and, for almost all of them, from the golf school run by Frédéric Le Gall. Captain of the team, Benjamin Davin, 26, is already thinking about the next move: “With what we have built and with our level of play, reaching the 1st national division is not an unattainable dream. Especially since our best player was selected by the American university championship. The ideal would be to get there within two years.”

The mobilization of members and maintenance teams also facilitated this rise to the elite. Because the day before the championship, the course had to be closed due to enormous rainfall falling on the Charente, flooding the greens and drowning the bunkers! But from 5:30 a.m. the next morning, members of the club were supporting the maintenance teams to restore the pitch.

“Having volunteers who caddied for us also helped us a lot. We warmly thank them for their support,” continues the young captain. But having club teams comes at a cost. A large budget, managed by the Sports Association, must be devoted each year to training and travel. “Being in 2e division will cost us even more,” concludes Benjamin Davin, in the form of a wink addressed to future sponsors.
