Police have been fired after horrifying video shows him repeatedly ramming a calf with a patrol car

Shocking video captures the moment a UK policeman repeatedly rams his patrol car into a runaway 10-month-old calf, removing him from frontline duty.

Footage shows a speeding police car crashing into the runaway animal, Beau Lucy, in Surrey on Friday, with one witness exclaiming, “Ow! What the f—k!” From a house up the road.

The calf was thrown a few feet forward onto the road before the police car rammed a second time, seemingly trying to stop the animal in its tracks.

Witness Kai Bennett, 22, said he saw the animal hit the car five times.

“A big police 4×4 came and hit the cow at about 30mph. I went ballistic. The cow was not bothering anyone. They did it again and this time they pulled forward so the car was pinning it by the neck. It was disgusting,” says Bennett The Times of London.

Neighbors were screaming in panic as the incident unfolded, with many assuming the animal was dead, Bennett said.

The police car was driven into the calf several times before the animal was finally led into a horse box by three men.

The calf's owner, Rob, said he had no idea how he escaped and only learned of his disappearance after seeing horrifying footage of his capture on social media.

“He actually ran off with another cow and they got separated. We had no idea until we got the call about the other cow. When we went to collect him on Saturday morning, the people there asked if we were aware of this escaped animal. That's when we looked at social media and it was horrible to see,” he told the newspaper.

He called the footage “very disturbing”.

“I think it was a case of the city police not knowing how to handle the situation. I understand that they thought he might be a danger to others but all it takes is a tranquilizer dart,” he said.

Beau Lucy is now recovering in a barn. He had no broken bones but it was not immediately clear if he was bleeding internally.

Rob's partner told the paper the police should be fired and suggested Beau Lucy may have died of shock after the tragic incident.

Surrey Police said the decision to use a police car to stop the animal was made after officers “tried a number of options to safely capture the cow” and were “extremely concerned about public safety”.

Police added that the officer driving the squad car has been “removed from frontline duty” pending the outcome of the investigation. Their identities have not been released.

Deputy Chief Constable Neve Kemp said, “Aside from our overriding responsibility to protect the public, the welfare of animals is important to us, and we know people want answers about how this happened and what happened to it”.
