Shannon Briggs Trained Jake Paul And Now Delivers Honest Verdict On Anthony Joshua Fight

Former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has expressed his views on the contentious matchup between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul. The renowned British heavyweight Joshua is set to face the YouTuber-turned-boxer on Friday, December 19, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. This contentious fight has drawn the interest of millions globally, with numerous fans and analysts questioning Paul’s choice to challenge the two-time world heavyweight champion. Since his surprising fifth-round stoppage loss to fellow Brit Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024, Joshua has not stepped into the ring, falling short in his quest to reclaim the world championship title. ‘The Problem Child’ marked his return to the sport on June 28, where he triumphed over former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at the Honda Center in Anaheim, successfully earning himself a cruiserweight world ranking with the WBA. Briggs, a former WBO heavyweight champion, collaborated with Paul during the initial phases of his professional journey and has now provided his insights on this disputed matchup. In an interview with Fight Hype, Briggs stated that while the outcome is uncertain, he would be ‘quite surprised’ if the fight extends beyond one round. “I don’t know what’s going to happen with this fight. If it goes more than one round I’m going to be quite surprised… It’s entertainment. It’s Netflix entertainment. Have fun, make money, and if you put him in the hospital, he got enough money to pay the bills anyway.” Although a lengthy period of inactivity may significantly impact Joshua, the 36-year-old from England seems confident heading into his comeback and has promised to break Paul’s face when they clash next week.
