The Chargers drafted WR Keenan Allen in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft from California. The 2025 season marks Allen’s 13th year as a professional and his 12th with Los Angeles. After the 2023 season, the Chargers traded Allen to the Bears, where he played for just one season, registering 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven receiving touchdowns. Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, the Bears re-traded Keenan Allen back to the Chargers.
As of Week 10 in 2025, Allen has made 52 catches for 539 yards and four touchdowns. On SNF during Week 10, he recorded two catches for 19 yards, with his second grab representing a historic moment for the six-time Pro Bowl WR. That catch was Keenan Allen’s 956th reception with the Chargers, surpassing Hall of Famer Antonio Gates for the most receptions in the franchise’s history. NFL insiders revealed that Keenan Allen spoke with the coaching staff about coordinating his landmark catch in the fourth quarter.

As the game drew to a close, Keenan Allen had only made one reception for the day. The Steelers’ defense was closely marking him. Allen went to head coach Jim Harbaugh with a suggestion. With the Chargers in a comfortable position, he requested a jet sweep play for an easy reception. Allen mentioned that the coaching staff called him a “genius” for contemplating that in the dying moments of the game.
Jim Harbaugh subsequently noted that Keenan Allen had family present that night. He expressed joy that the seasoned WR was able to achieve the record in front of a home audience. With seven games remaining in 2025, Keenan Allen will keep adding to his record. The 33-year-old reached 955 career receptions in 87 fewer games than Antonio Gates. When Allen’s career concludes, he will be remembered as one of the all-time greats in Chargers history.
