Houston’s C.J. Stroud (concussion) will miss Week 10 against the Jaguars

After eight games in the 2025 season, the Texans hold a record of 3-5. Houston recently achieved a close 18-15 victory against the Broncos in Week 9. During the second quarter against Denver, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud suffered a significant hit to the head during a tackle. The 24-year-old was unable to continue for the remainder of the Week 9 matchup vs. the Broncos. Backup QB Davis Mills stepped in to complete the game for Houston. NFL sources have confirmed that C.J. Stroud remains in concussion protocol. The Pro Bowl quarterback will not participate in Week 10’s game against the Jaguars.

In his initial 32 career starts, C.J. Stroud of the Texans recorded a 19-13 record. This comprised a 9-6 finish during his rookie year and a 10-7 performance in 2024. Moreover, he has guided the Texans to two straight postseasons, winning at least one playoff game each time. As the 2025 season gets underway, Houston is struggling with a 3-5 record with Stroud at the helm. The Texans will engage in their third consecutive home game in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Houston will be without QB C.J. Stroud, who is still under concussion protocol. Stroud sustained a concussion early in the second quarter of the Texans’ Week 9 defeat to Denver. The third-year player had completed 6-10 passes for 79 yards before leaving the contest. Davis Mills took over and finished the game for Houston, completing 17-30 for 137 yards. All 15 points that the Texans scored in Week 9 were generated by Ka’imi Fairbairn’s field goals.

Davis Mills was selected by the Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft from Stanford. Over five seasons, Mills has participated in 40 games and made 26 starts for the Texans. He has a starting record of 5-19-1 in the NFL. Mills’ most recent start occurred during the 2022 season, where he started 15 games for the Texans. With C.J. Stroud as the starting quarterback for the past three years, Davis Mills has taken the field in 12 games for Houston.
The 27-year-old will make his first start in nearly three years for Week 10. Houston will host the 5-3 Jaguars in an AFC South divisional clash. Davis Mills’ last NFL starting appearance was in Week 18 of the 2022 season, where he went 22-38 for 298 yards, threw three touchdown passes, and had two interceptions. He led the Texans to a narrow 32-31 victory against the Colts. The Texans are hopeful that C.J. Stroud can return by Week 12 when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
