The Dallas Cowboys made a trade with the Bengals to obtain veteran LB Logan Wilson

During Monday Night Football in Week 9, the Dallas Cowboys faced off against the Arizona Cardinals at home. As has been the case throughout the season, the Cowboys’ defense encountered difficulties. Even with backup Jacoby Brissett on the field, Dallas fell 27-17.
The team’s record stands at 3-5-1 after their first nine games. ESPN’s MNF broadcast stated that the Cowboys might pursue a trade before the Tuesday deadline at 4:00 p.m. EST. This turned out to be accurate, as on Tuesday morning, NFL insiders revealed that the Cowboys exchanged a 2026 7th-round pick to bring in LB Logan Wilson. He has participated in 76 games over six seasons and made 65 starts.

In the 2020 NFL draft, the Bengals chose LB Logan Wilson with a third-round pick from Wyoming. As a rookie in 2020, Wilson appeared in 12 games and secured two starts for Cincinnati. By his second season, Logan Wilson became a full-time starter for the Bengals. He has recorded at least 100 combined tackles in each of his last four seasons with the team. Despite being named a team captain in 2025, Logan Wilson was relegated to a lesser role.
He was benched in Week 6 for rookie LB Barrett Carter. Over eight games and seven starts in 2025, Logan Wilson participated in 67% of the Bengals’ defensive snaps. On Tuesday morning, NFL insiders shared that the Dallas Cowboys had traded with Cincinnati to acquire the veteran LB. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones likened Logan Wilson to the former fan-favorite Leighton Vander Esch.

Logan Wilson has two years left on a four-year, $36 million contract he signed with the Bengals during the 2023 offseason. In 2025, the Cowboys rank 31st out of 32 teams in total defense and scoring defense, with only the Bengals performing worse. Jerry Jones stated that Logan Wilson can arrive and instantly contribute to the Cowboys at linebacker.
As they prepared for Monday’s game against the Cardinals, the Cowboys had allowed an average of at least 136 rushing yards per game to their opponents. While the Cowboys managed to keep Arizona below 136 rushing yards, Dallas still struggled to make crucial stops. Backup RB Emari Demercado topped the team with 14 carries for 79 rushing yards. Dallas will have a bye in Week 10, allowing Logan Wilson time to adjust to his new team. His first chance to play for the Cowboys will be on MNF in Week 11 against the Raiders.
