Fighter Who Was Stopped By David Benavidez Says One Man Hit Harder

A former opponent of David Benavidez asserts that there is one fighter who struck him with greater force than ‘The Mexican Monster’. The two-weight world champion Benavidez has consistently established himself as one of the premier figures in boxing over the past 12 to 18 months, remaining undefeated in 31 contests since he began his professional career in 2013. The 28-year-old from Phoenix returned to the ring on November 22, where he defeated Britain’s Anthony Yarde in the seventh round of their encounter in Riyadh, successfully defending his WBC light-heavyweight championship for the first time. In an interview with Boxing King Media, Yarde expressed his views on the punching strength of ‘The Mexican Monster’, although he asserts that Russian standout Artur Beterbiev actually landed harder blows on him in a surprising revelation. “I know it seems unbelievable, but during the bout with Benavidez, aside from when he struck me while I was down, he never actually hurt me. However, Beterbiev did hurt me. “I believe in the second round, Beterbiev hit me with a left hook at the end of the round and that stunned me, whereas with Benavidez, the punches were overwhelming, yet none of them inflicted pain, including the body shots; they didn’t hurt me at all.” The former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Beterbiev stopped Yarde in the eighth round of their bout in London back in January 2023, successfully defending his WBC, WBO, and IBF world titles. The 40-year-old has not yet returned to the ring following his defeat in the rematch with Dmitry Bivol in February, but the two Russians are anticipated to face off for the third time next year.
