Atalanta finally penetrated Genoa’s defense deep into stoppage time, with Isak Hien netting a dramatic winner in the 90+4th minute to secure a tightly contested 1-0 victory after a lengthy evening of challenges. The dynamics of the match shifted almost instantly when Genoa found themselves down to ten men within the first three minutes. Goalkeeper Nicola Leali received a straight red card for a foul outside of his penalty area, leading Daniele De Rossi to make an urgent tactical adjustment and granting Atalanta a numerical edge for nearly the entirety of the match.

Gianluca Scamacca came close on two occasions; first with a fierce free-kick that sailed over the crossbar and later with a header that went off target. Charles De Ketelaere, Yunus Musah, and Daniel Maldini also had opportunities but could not challenge Genoa’s substitute goalkeeper Daniele Sommariva, who made several reliable saves.

(Photo by Timothy Rogers/Getty Images) Genoa defended valiantly and compactly, occasionally posing threats from set pieces, with Vitinha and Lorenzo Colombo coming closest to achieving an unexpected breakthrough. As time elapsed, it appeared their steadfast defense might bear fruit. However, Atalanta’s relentless pressure ultimately paid off in the dying moments. After yet another corner was taken, the ball fell fortuitously in the box, and Hien reacted the quickest, heading the ball into the net to ignite celebrations and conclude Genoa’s commendable defensive effort.
