Jaguars’ Travis Hunter (knee) has been put on the IR and will be sidelined for four games
During Week 8, the Jacksonville Jaguars enjoyed a bye week. The prior week, they had traveled to London to take on the Los Angeles Rams. They unfortunately lost that game 35-7, concluding the week with a 4-3 record for the season.
In Week 7 against the Rams, Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter delivered the standout performance of his career, despite the defeat. He recorded a personal-best eight receptions for 101 receiving yards along with a touchdown. Regrettably, Jaguars supporters received grim injury news on Friday. Hunter sustained a knee injury during practice on Thursday. Head coach Liam Coen revealed that Hunter would be placed on the IR and will be out for a minimum of four games.

This April, Jacksonville held the fifth overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. However, general manager James Gladstone executed a significant trade with the Browns, who had the second overall pick. Gladstone exchanged first-round picks with Cleveland and also provided a 2025 fourth-round pick along with Jacksonville’s 2026 first-round pick. Following the trade, the Jaguars secured the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, allowing them to select the generational talent Travis Hunter.
At 22 years old, Hunter emerged as one of the most captivating prospects in his draft class. He excelled at the college level, earning the Heisman Trophy in his final year. During his college career at Colorado, Travis Hunter played both roles extensively, functioning as both a WR and CB. Many anticipate that he would transition to both positions in the NFL, although he has been utilized more offensively. Throughout seven games, Hunter has been on the field for 67% of Jacksonville’s offensive plays.

Additionally, Hunter has participated in 36% of the defensive snaps for the team. To date, Travis Hunter has recorded 28 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown. He also displays 15 combined tackles, three passes defended, and one fumble recovery. The knee injury occurred on Thursday during practice. Liam Coen announced on Friday that Hunter would be placed on the IR.
This injury means Hunter will miss at least the upcoming four games for Jacksonville. He will be eligible to make his return in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans. By that point, Hunter will have been away for over a month. This injury came right after the bye week at a particularly unfortunate time. The Jaguars will require players like Brian Thomas Jr. and Parker Washington to step up during Hunter’s absence. Tight end Brenton Strange is also currently on the IR and is expected to return in Week 11. Can Jacksonville’s offense withstand Hunter’s absence?
