Jamie Vardy learning Italian swear words – and already has his favourite
The remarkable journey of Jamie Vardy at Leicester City concluded last season, but the 38-year-old fan favorite is generating buzz in Italy after signing with Serie A team Cremonese. Vardy has inked an initial one-year contract with the recently promoted side – which comes with an option for an additional year – and currently, everything appears to be going well. Cremonese remains unbeaten and holds the third position in the standings; Vardy has made his first appearance, and there are reports indicating that he and his wife Rebekah are comfortably adapting to la dolce vita with their two children. The couple has purchased a £2m villa in Salò, a place historically known as Benito Mussolini’s base, and interestingly now the home of Vardy’s new teammate, Romano Mussolini (the dictator’s great-grandson). In addition to exploring their new environment, the Vardys are also engaging in Italian lessons. Jamie, in particular, seems to be relishing some of the more colorful expressions in the language. “Jamie and Becky are thoroughly enjoying their life in Italy and are making every effort to fit in flawlessly. The entire family is taking Italian lessons, and Jamie is already familiar with some of the more colorful swear words,” a source shared with The Sun. Reportedly, his favorite thus far is “Vaffanculo” – a rather impolite term that can be interpreted as “get lost.” This aligns perfectly with Vardy’s persona: he has previously mentioned that he intentionally learned swear words in the languages of his Premier League rivals to provoke them on the pitch. Now, it seems he’s transporting that playful talent to Serie A – suggesting that Italian defenders might experience more than just the usual challenge of keeping up with him.
