Bologna could not ´raise our level´ in Supercoppa defeat, Italiano concedes

Vincenzo Italiano admitted Bologna failed to “raise our level” during their Supercoppa Italiana final loss to an impressive Napoli. The Coppa Italia titleholders were defeated 2-0 in Riyadh, with David Neres netting twice, once in each half, for the reigning Scudetto champions. Bologna made their debut in this competition, but after overcoming Inter in penalties during the semi-finals, they experienced their first-ever defeat in a one-off final. Italiano praised the Rossoblu’s efforts but recognized they were outmatched by the Partenopei. “We tried to do everything we possibly could this evening against a team that overperformed, with Neres having an amazing game,” Italiano told Sport Mediaset.

“Napoli delivered a fantastic performance. We put forth our best effort, but could not elevate our level to compete with them. It’s unfortunate, but these are the types of matches that facilitate a team’s growth. It’s a disappointment to lose to such a remarkable performance from our competitors. I hold no regrets tonight, as the lads gave it their all.” Napoli’s decisive second goal surfaced when Neres intercepted a stray pass from Federico Ravaglia directed at defender Jhon Lucumi, and the striker subsequently chipped the ball over the goalkeeper. Nevertheless, Italiano defended his goalkeeper. “Ravaglia was outstanding in the previous match (against Inter),” the Bologna manager remarked. “He had a minor lapse, but that didn’t alter the outcome. He is deeply committed to this club, as if he has the Bologna colors etched onto his skin. It’s never simple to reach the final. We focus on those mistakes so that we can enhance our performance in the future.”
