Chelsea are looking to acquire a new midfielder next year because of the ongoing injury issues surrounding Romeo Lavia, as reported by The Athletic.
Lavia was brought in from Southampton a few years back with high expectations, but the Belgian has struggled to make a significant impact for the Blues due to frequent injuries. The club’s management has become increasingly exasperated with his inconsistent fitness and is expected to target a top-class midfielder in the upcoming summer. Manager Enzo Maresca may prefer to find an immediate solution in January to ease the burden on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. However, Chelsea thinks they might need to hold off until the end of the season to land their preferred and primary targets. Currently, Lavia is on the sidelines with no clear return date. If his condition does not get better, he may be offloaded during the summer. Marseille has shown interest in acquiring the Belgian and is expected to seek a bargain deal due to his continuous injury problems.
