Maresca on Cucurella
Chelsea’s head coach Enzo Maresca mentioned that defender Marc Cucurella was taken off during the match against Aston Villa due to a possible hamstring issue.
The Blues had the upper hand in the first half at Stamford Bridge and should have secured more than a single goal given the opportunities they created. The second half, however, told a different story. The visitors fought back significantly after Ollie Watkins was brought in off the bench by manager Unai Emery. Watkins altered the game with two goals in the second half, leading the Blues to another defeat in the ongoing league season. After the match, Maresca explained that Cucurella’s substitution was not due to tactics, but because he was expressing discomfort in his hamstring. He stated, “He was complaining about his hamstring. We don’t know if it’s an injury yet or not.” The Blues were in a title contention earlier in November, but their recent form has seen them fall 13 points behind leaders Arsenal. Currently, they sit three points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool, facing a challenging path to qualify for the Champions League.
