Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta has shed light on the injuries suffered by Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori following their 2-1 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners have regained their position at the top of the league table after a hard-won success over the Seagulls. In his post-match comments, Arteta noted that Timber was absent from the match due to landing awkwardly in the previous fixture. He also mentioned that Calafiori experienced a peculiar injury yesterday, which forced him to be substituted from the starting lineup due to his discomfort. Arteta stated: “Yes, because as well there are injuries with Jurrien, he landed awkwardly and there’s something with Richy as well, very, very strange. It’s something that he felt yesterday, it’s something very awkward that happened and today in the warm-up, he wasn’t comfortable.” Arsenal has been less effective in the attacking phase over the last several matches and they need to enhance their performance to maintain their lead in the title chase. They sit two and three points ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa, respectively, and are set to face the latter at the Emirates on Tuesday. Before this match, Arsenal benefitted from a timely advantage with Boubacar Kamara and Matty Cash serving suspensions due to accumulating five yellow cards.
