Kongolo headed for Gunners move?
Arsenal’s scouts are keeping an eye on the development of Belgium under-19 international Josue Kongolo, as the adaptable defender continues to shine in the Jupiler League with his current team, Genk. Kongolo progressed through the youth system at his club and agreed to a professional contract in 2022. He has reportedly informed the club that he does not intend to renew his current deal, which ends in 2028.
The Gunners have encountered difficulties with defensive injuries this season, with both Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori unavailable for the hectic January schedule. Arsenal is receptive to acquiring new talent and thinks that Kongolo’s desire to leave could mean a fee of approximately £2,500,000 would be sufficient to secure the young prospect. Mikel Arteta has been collaborating with sporting director Andrea Berta ahead of the January transfer window, and enhancing the defense is a priority at this juncture. Kongolo’s main position is central defense, but he is reportedly also comfortable playing as a right-back. Although Kongolo has not yet established himself as a regular starter for Genk, he is on the brink of joining the first team.
