The Serie A January transfer period is approaching, and here’s a retrospective on the priciest incoming players in the league’s history. Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic continues to hold the title of the most expensive signing in Serie A history after moving from La Viola to the Bianconeri in the winter of 2022. The Serbian remains under the four-and-a-half-year contract he penned that transfer window, which is due to conclude at the end of the ongoing season. Juventus also secures the second position in the list of the most expensive Serie A signings, having acquired Dejan Kulusevski from Atalanta in January 2020. The Old Lady allegedly paid a sum of €35m plus bonuses for the Swede and made a profit following his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs supposedly paid a loan fee of €10m in addition to a buy-out fee around €35m in 2022 and 2023. Milan’s acquisition of Lucas Paqueta from Flamengo in 2019 is third on the all-time list, Krzysztof Piatek’s transfer from Genoa in the same window occupies the fourth spot, and the previous season’s acquisition of Santiago Gimenez from Feyenoord ranks fifth. Inter is represented twice on the list, with their signing of Clarence Seedorf from Real Madrid in the 1999-2000 season, the oldest transaction on the all-time list, and their acquisition of Christian Eriksen from Tottenham in the 2019-20 season. Napoli’s transfer of Stanislav Lobotka from Celta Vigo in 2019-20 is also included.
