Premier League round-up: Wolves inflict more pain on West Ham as Brighton conquer Burnley
Following Aston Villa’s 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in the early fixture, two additional matches took place in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Remaining in the Midlands, West Ham faced off against Wolves in a critical encounter at the lower end of the table.
Both sides are entrenched in the relegation zone, yet with Forest’s defeat, the Hammers had the opportunity to narrow the gap to just one point above the drop zone.
Conversely, Wolves required a victory to enhance their chances of escaping the bottom position.
In the second match, Brighton played host to Burnley on the South Coast. The Seagulls find themselves comfortably in the top half of the standings and aimed to maintain their solid form at the Amex.
Burnley, however, was still in dire need of victories with Scott Parker at the helm. Read on to discover how both matches unfolded in the Premier League.
Wolves 3-0 West Ham
Wolves celebrated a much-needed Premier League win with a decisive 3-0 triumph over West Ham at Molineux, putting an end to their winless streak in style.
The damage was inflicted during a remarkable first half from the home team. Jhon Arias opened the scoring early, slotting in from close range after a well-coordinated move that involved Mateus Mane and Hee-Chan Hwang.
Wolves doubled their lead midway through the first half when Hwang confidently converted from the penalty spot after Mane was fouled.
The third goal came before halftime, with 18-year-old Mane netting his first senior goal for the club, capping off a dominant period.
West Ham found it difficult to react, creating minimal opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, with only a few sporadic attempts despite multiple changes at halftime.
Brighton 2-0 Burnley
Brighton secured a straightforward 2-0 victory at home against Burnley, ending a six-match winless streak in the Premier League and climbing into the top eight.
From the very beginning, the hosts controlled possession and took the lead just before the half-hour mark. After a prolonged period of pressure, Georginio Rutter was quick to react to a deflected shot, finishing from a narrow angle to give Brighton a well-deserved lead.
Burnley struggled to respond, although they did manage to force Bart Verbruggen into a save just before halftime to maintain a 1-0 scoreline.
Any hopes of a comeback were largely extinguished shortly after the restart. Yasin Ayari extended Brighton’s advantage with a precise right-footed shot into the bottom corner, exploiting Burnley’s sluggish start to the second half.
