Bangladesh declines to travel to India for T20 World Cup
The fixtures for Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup were set to take place in Kolkata and Mumbai, beginning with their first match against West Indies at Eden Gardens on February 7. “After a detailed evaluation of the current climate and increasing worries about the safety and security of the Bangladesh delegation in India, along with the guidance from the Bangladesh Government, the Board of Directors determined that the Bangladesh National Team will not proceed to India for the tournament given the existing circumstances,” stated the BCB in an announcement. “In response to this decision, the BCB has officially asked the International Cricket Council (ICC), the authority overseeing the event, to explore the possibility of relocating all of Bangladesh’s matches to a site outside India.” The BCB released this statement shortly after Bangladesh’s sports adviser Asif Nazrul expressed his support for the board’s decision to abstain from traveling to India. “The BCB has opted not to dispatch the Bangladesh team to India for the World Cup. We endorse this choice made in light of the extreme communal policies of the Indian cricket board,” he shared on his official Facebook account. More updates to follow…
