Arizona Supreme Court Evacuated Following Positive Explosive Package Test

On Monday morning, the Arizona Supreme Court building was cleared out after several vials that indicated the presence of a homemade explosive material were delivered to the location, as stated by the state’s Department of Public Safety (DPS). Around 8 a.m. on Monday, DPS answered calls regarding a “suspicious package.” Later that same morning, various agencies, including the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco, arrived on the scene. By approximately 10:30 a.m. Monday, employees at the Arizona Supreme Court building were sent home, and the facility was evacuated after a package in the building’s mailroom was confirmed to contain explosives, according to 12News, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix. The building is located about a mile west of downtown Phoenix, with the investigation into the package being directed by the state’s Department of Public Safety, as reported by the Phoenix Police Department. Several nearby buildings, such as the Department of Education, located directly across from the Supreme Court structure, were also evacuated, according to DPS.
