Man City announce surgery for Gvardiol’s fractured leg

Manchester City has announced that Josko Gvardiol will be undergoing surgery for a tibial fracture later this week. The defender incurred the injury during City’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, going down with the issue in the second half following a clash with Malo Gusto.
Gvardiol has participated in 16 of City’s 20 Premier League matches this season, achieving the fourth-highest number of tackles for Pep Guardiola’s team (13) and winning 55.2% of his duels. The Croatia international has played a direct role in four goals within the English top-flight this season (two goals and two assists) as City trails the leaders, Arsenal, by six points in the title chase.
City issued a statement, saying, “Manchester City FC can confirm that Josko Gvardiol has suffered a tibial fracture to his right leg.

“The injury occurred during the second half of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League.
“The defender is scheduled for surgery later this week, and evaluations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the injury and anticipated recovery.
“Everyone at the Club is wishing Josko a swift recovery.”
City has a packed month ahead, including an FA Cup match against Exeter this weekend following their league game against Brighton. They will then take on Newcastle United at St. James Park in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, in addition to facing Manchester United in the league on January 17.
Guardiola’s squad also has Champions League fixtures against Bodo/Glimt and Galatasaray, sandwiching a league match at home to Wolves.
