In 2025, AGON Sports reviews a remarkable year characterized by seven events across three continents, more than 20 title bouts, and an impressive array of internationally ranked boxers.
Overall, AGON Sports organized seven events, with five occurring outside Germany. Two events were hosted in Cuba, along with the company’s participation in international WBA events held in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Madrid (Spain), and Benghazi (Libya). AGON also had a notable presence in Germany: In Neu-Ulm, five-time world champion Felix Sturm stepped back into the ring before an audience of 4,200, followed by another event in September at Berlin’s Uber Eats Music Hall, emphasizing title fights and nurturing emerging talent.
“This blend of global presence and local roots is currently unparalleled in German boxing,” comments promoter and AGON CEO Ingo Volckmann. The two Cuban events held special historical importance. For the first time since the 1960s, professional boxing was reinstated on the island. AGON Sports thus made boxing history while also establishing a fresh platform for exceptional Cuban talents in the professional arena.
On the sports front, the year was highlighted by title fights at nearly every tier—from national championships to international WBA and WBO titles, culminating in the highest echelons of the world rankings. The pinnacle was the unified world title bout featuring William Scull and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the WBA, IBF, WBO, and WBC titles in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia—one of the premier boxing venues globally. The involvement of a German promoter in such a significant boxing event underscored AGON Sports’ global profile.
Julio Cesar La Cruz made another impressive mark. After his win in the WBA Final Eliminator in April against Dilan Prasovic, the remarkable Cuban athlete was officially designated the mandatory challenger for the WBA Bridgerweight World Championship, placing him directly in the running for the world title.
Simultaneously, AGON Sports strategically invested in athletic talent, signing several of the world’s top boxers. Through La Cruz, Erislandy Alvarez, Lazaro Alvarez, Arlen Lopez, and Sofiane Oumiha, AGON welcomed Olympic champions, elite amateurs, and world titleholders into its roster, effectively enhancing its sporting caliber.
Nationally, AGON Sports also made a strong statement. Two boxers from Berlin, Hamsat Shadalov and Paul Wall, achieved their initial title victories at the international and national levels respectively in 2025, thereby validating the effectiveness of their youth development initiatives.
The competitive depth of the AGON stable is clearly visible in the world rankings. Numerous boxers hold positions in the top 10 or top 15 of the primary sanctioning bodies, including Julio Cesar La Cruz, Arlen Lopez, William Scull, Vincenzo Gualtieri, Etinosa Oliha, Erislandy and Lazaro Alvarez, along with Moussa Gholam.
The forecast for the next year emphasizes the sporting ambitions: On January 10, heavyweight Granit Shala is set to face Petar Milas at the Agit-Kabayel Homecoming, while super middleweight William Scull will go up against Jacob Banks in Denmark on January 31.
Ingo Volckmann stated: “We not only showcased a compelling sporting performance in 2025 but also firmly positioned German professional boxing on the global stage and crafted boxing history through our inaugural event in Cuba. Our fighters were sought after on both national and international fronts, allowing us to celebrate significant successes. I extend my gratitude to all the fans, partners, the team, and the athletes for this remarkable year. In 2026, we’ll continue from where we left off in 2025! With the major bouts featuring Granit Shala at the Kabayel event and William Scull in Denmark in a crucial ranking fight, we’re aiming even higher right in January!”
