Moroccan defender en route to Chelsea?
Chelsea’s scouting team and management have convened to explore a transfer opportunity for 22-year-old right-back Omar El Hilali, who currently plays for the Spanish club Espanyol. The defender has attracted attention due to several notable performances this season, where he has contributed two assists, and the Blues are contemplating a transfer package that could reach £18 million for this young talent.
The Stamford Bridge club has been focused on adding some of Europe’s most promising young players, and in El Hilali, the board believes they are securing a player who will quickly break into the Chelsea first team. Capable of operating on the right flank of defense or in central roles, El Hilali already has 80 league appearances to his name for Espanyol, having made his debut in 2021. His current contract is set to run until 2027, with Espanyol holding the option for an additional year. Reports suggest that the Catalan club is open to a sale, as they require funds during the transfer window. The departure of their most promising young player seems to be on the horizon.
