Erasmus to guide youthful Namibia at T20 World Cup
Jack Brassell, at only 20 years old, has participated in nine ODIs and 18 T20Is, and he will spearhead the fast-bowling unit alongside the more seasoned 25-year-old Ben Shikongo, who has featured in 23 ODIs and 40 T20Is and was instrumental in Namibia’s victory over Tanzania in the qualifying match that secured their spot in the T20 World Cup. Joining them on the bowling front could be Max Heingo, who made his international debut during Namibia’s momentous T20I triumph over South Africa in October, taking 2 for 32, dismissing Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Donovan Ferreira. The squad also includes Louren Steenkamp, the 28-year-old top-order batsman with seven T20Is under his belt and a strike rate of 126.85; 22-year-old middle-order batsman Jan Balt, who has played just three ODIs and six T20Is; 21-year-old Dylan Leicher, another middle-order player with five ODIs and 14 T20Is to his name; and Willem Myburgh, the 25-year-old allrounder who has only played a single ODI thus far. The sole travelling reserve is Alexander Busing-Volschenk, a 20-year-old allrounder who has participated in five T20Is. A significant highlight for Namibia ahead of the World Cup was the hiring of Kirsten. Kirsten was introduced as a consultant for the national men’s teams on December 7 last year, expressing his desire to “add value to their preparation for the T20 World Cup held in February next year.” Namibia finds itself in a group with host nation India, Netherlands, Pakistan, and the USA at the T20 World Cup.
