Everton targeting “fantastic” Middlesbrough star who is hinting at his future

Everton is now focusing on acquiring a midfield talent who may take over James Garner’s position should he leave as a free agent this summer, as per reports.
Man Utd and Newcastle interested in James Garner
While much of the attention has been directed towards Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Garner has been having his most impressive season in an Everton jersey. Sadly for the Toffees, this peak form aligns with the expiration of his existing contract in the summer.

The Friedkin Group should be eager to finalize new terms with their midfielder, but reported interest from his former club Manchester United and Newcastle United may complicate those plans. Commenting on Garner’s situation, David Moyes stated that the club would be doing everything possible to retain Garner beyond this season and if it were his choice, he wouldn’t be leaving.

“Look, I wouldn’t be letting (Garner) go and I believe the Club will do whatever they can to ensure that he remains.
“It’s probably a bit different and shows signs (of progression) since I’m not aware of many clubs having pursued Everton players in the past, but now they’re beginning to show some interest, which is promising.
“Hopefully he will sign a new contract when the time arises, but at the end of the season he has an option (for an additional year extension) as well, so, obviously, we’ll be addressing that, should it be necessary.”

The one-year extension clause should provide the Toffees with an edge during negotiations, but they have a contingency plan in place should Garner leave in the summer. As reported by TeamTalk, Everton is keen on signing Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney.

The young midfielder has been regarded as a future Premier League player for some time, even if it doesn’t occur through Championship promotion with Middlesbrough. In past seasons, he seemed satisfied to remain in Teesside, but reports suggest that Hackney plans to change agents come January, which could signal significant developments regarding his club future.

Out of possession, Hackney stands out as one of the finest midfielders in the Championship. The 23-year-old is relentless when it comes to tracking back and also possesses a goal-scoring ability when opportunities present themselves. If anyone is ready for the Premier League from England’s second tier, it’s the Middlesbrough standout. Newly appointed Boro head coach Kim Hellberg recognizes the skill set at his disposal too, asserting to reporters: “Hayden is a fantastic player. He excels at everything. He could operate in any position on the pitch and do it exceptionally well.
