Ex-World Champion Declares ‘He’s Back’ After Losing World Title

A well-regarded former world champion is gearing up for his much-anticipated comeback to the ring after being stripped of his title earlier this year. Virginia’s Keyshawn Davis, popularly referred to as ‘The Businessman’, is set to return to the ring for the first time since losing his WBO world lightweight title in June. The unbeaten American was slated to defend his title against Edwin De Los Santos on June 7 but weighed in at 4.3lbs above the lightweight limit, which led to the WBO revoking the 26-year-old’s title. In the weeks following this event, Davis hinted at a possible retirement from boxing, but he has since reversed that decision, announcing his super-lightweight debut against Jamaine Ortiz on January 31. In a video shared by Fight Hype, an excited Davis confirmed he is ‘back in action’ and promised to be ‘better than ever’ when he faces his fellow American in New York City next month. “Told you … The Businessman is back in action. They just released the news. Wonderful news. Groundbreaking news. Christmas Day news. They just released the news. I told y’all I was gonna be back and better right? I told y’all that right? Didn’t I tell y’all that?” Davis’ highly anticipated return to the ring against Ortiz is scheduled to occur on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez’s world title defense against Shakur Stevenson at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City.
