Following a third straight 2-8 start, the New York Giants have dismissed head coach Brian Daboll
In Week 10 of the 2025 season, the New York Giants held a lead of 10 points with under four minutes remaining. Yet again, the team squandered a fourth-quarter advantage, marking the fourth time this has occurred in 10 games. In light of a 2-8 start, ownership decided to make a change. Brian Daboll was let go after four seasons at the helm in New York. He guided the franchise to the playoffs in his inaugural season and was awarded Coach of the Year in 2022. Since the outset of the 2023 season, the Giants have a record of 11-33. Daboll concluded his tenure with a 20-40-1 record as head coach of the New York Giants. The New York Giants terminated Brian Daboll on Monday following a 24-20 defeat against the Bears.

Before the 2022 season, the New York Giants overhauled their leadership. They appointed Joe Schoen as general manager and Brian Daboll as head coach. The duo had previously worked together in Buffalo. Schoen was serving as the assistant GM under Brandon Beane, while Daboll held the position of offensive coordinator. In the 2022 season, the Giants finished with a 9-7-1 record and reached the playoffs. The team even triumphed in a playoff match for the first time since their Super Bowl 46 win against the Patriots. However, the outcomes have not been favorable for Brian Daboll in the three years that followed the 2022 season. Since the beginning of the 2023 season, New York has recorded a 11-33 record. This includes a 6-11 finish in 2023, a 3-14 record in 2024, and a 2-8 start in 2025. Insiders have indicated that Joe Schoen will continue as the general manager of the Giants. He is expected to stay on board for the remainder of the season to assist in hiring a new head coach.

In a joint statement with co-owner Steve Tisch, Giants owner John Mara spoke about Brian Daboll’s dismissal. “The recent seasons have been profoundly disappointing, and we have not achieved the expectations we set for this franchise,” Mara remarked. “We recognize the frustrations of our supporters, and we are committed to providing a substantially better product.” – John Mara
Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will take on the role of interim head coach for New York. Kafka has been a member of the Giants’ staff since the start of the 2022 season. Prior to that, he was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Chiefs. Mike Kafka has been a candidate for head coaching positions over the last two seasons. This will present another opportunity for the 38-year-old to prove himself as a potential future head coach in the NFL. Who will ultimately be chosen as the next head coach of the New York Giants?
