Gill excluded from India’s T20 World Cup roster
India has excluded Test and one-day international captain Shubman Gill from their 15-member roster for the men’s T20 World Cup. The 26-year-old’s removal comes after he accumulated 291 runs in his 15 T20 games in 2025, with India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar commenting that the batsman was “short of runs at the moment.” Gill did not participate in the T20 international against South Africa on Friday, a match that India won, securing a 3-1 series victory. Suryakumar Yadav managed to score just five runs in that match, yet, despite his 218 runs across 19 T20 appearances this year, he maintained his leadership role. “We have complete confidence in our captain to perform during the World Cup,” stated Agarkar. Suryakumar remarked: “I understand what needs to be done. I have the time to address it. We will certainly see Surya the batter.” India, as defending champions, will host the T20 World Cup alongside Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. They share their group with Namibia, Netherlands, Pakistan, and the USA.
