Austrian prospect set to join Liverpool
Liverpool is set to finalize a transfer for Austrian defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe, with the under-17 international making his way to Anfield from his current club Austria Vienna in a deal estimated at around 8.4 million euros. The robust central defender is regarded as one of Europe’s top young prospects, and Arne Slot’s team has been tracking Ndukwe for several months, successfully outpacing several clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, to secure his signature.
Bundesliga giants Dortmund and Bayern had already agreed to meet Austria Vienna’s asking price, but ultimately, the appeal of the Premier League swayed Ndukwe, and he has confirmed his decision to move to England. The player will join Liverpool during the summer, completing the current season in the Austrian Bundesliga. Ndukwe has inked a six-year contract at Anfield and is viewed as a long-term successor for Virgil van Dijk, who is nearing the end of his career. The 1.98m defender was recently called up to the Austria Vienna first team after being promoted from the Young Violets, although he has not yet made his debut.
