Liverpool: Slot commends ‘special’ Wirtz performance after eagerly awaited first Premier League goal

Arne Slot praised a “special” display from Florian Wirtz after he netted his inaugural Premier League goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Wolves.
The triumph against the bottom club in the Premier League, which still searches for a league win this season, didn’t unfold as easily as many expected.

Nonetheless, it was a memorable occasion for Wirtz, who arrived for £100million in the summer and had faced criticism regarding his lack of goal contributions.
In an interview with BBC Match of the Day, Slot expressed admiration for Wirtz and his overall influence, emphasizing that the poor statistics haven’t mirrored his significance.
“It’s great for him to net his first goal,” Slot remarked.
“He’s been crucial for us throughout the season. But in football, people focus on results; you are essentially evaluated on your outcomes or your goals and assists. I believe today he demonstrated much more than just the goal; he was exceptional for us in numerous areas of the match.”
Wolves’ goal stemmed from a recurring issue for Liverpool, who allowed Bueno to score from an unguarded net after the hosts failed to clear a corner.
“For a significant period, up to 2-1, it was the way I intended the game to unfold,” Slot clarified.
“But then we conceded, and not for the first time from a set piece. The positive takeaway is that in many instances this season, we have lost when conceding from set pieces, but in the last two matches, we have managed to secure victories.
“We are also aware that we must enhance our performance in that aspect, which is evident and clear to see.”
