One individual apprehended following assault on JD Vance’s Ohio residence, officials report

Authorities in Ohio reported on Monday that one individual is in custody following an attack overnight at the home of JD Vance, during which windows were smashed. According to a statement from the US Secret Service, the US vice-president was not present at his Cincinnati home at that time. An adult male was taken into custody shortly after midnight “for causing damage to property, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence affiliated with the vice-president,” CNN noted. “The US Secret Service is working alongside the Cincinnati Police Department and the US Attorney’s Office as they evaluate potential charges,” a spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, stated, as reported by the outlet. WLWT, a Cincinnati news station, mentioned that Secret Service agents and local police spent several hours at the residence located in the East Walnut Hills area after reports of window damage were received. According to two unnamed law enforcement sources who spoke with the Associated Press, Secret Service agents reported hearing a loud sound at the residence around midnight and discovered an individual who had shattered a window with a hammer and was attempting to enter the home. The man also vandalized a Secret Service vehicle while approaching the house’s driveway, one official indicated. Vance was at the property overlooking the Ohio River throughout the previous week, but he departed on Sunday afternoon, WLWT noted. The channel uploaded a photo to its website, allegedly showing damage to at least four panes of glass in what appeared to be a ground-level window. While Vance is under constant personal protection from the Secret Service as vice-president, the degree of security at his private home fluctuates based on his travel arrangements. Following the June 2025 murder of Minnesota state legislator Melissa Hortman and her spouse at their Minneapolis home, alongside an attack on another Democratic official and his wife that same night, many politicians have taken measures to bolster security. In October 2024, a man received a 30-year prison sentence for assaulting Paul Pelosi, the husband of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, with a hammer at their residence in California.
