Two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter shared his thoughts on a possible rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia. The two Americans first faced off in April of 2024, a match later surrounded by controversy after news emerged that Garcia had tested positive for a banned substance prior to the fight. ‘King Ryan’ was initially announced the winner by majority decision, having dropped Haney several times during their non-title contest at the Barclays Center in New York City. Subsequently, Garcia received a one-year suspension from boxing and was fined over $1 million, although the 27-year-old from California has returned to the ring, suffering an unexpected loss to Rolando Romero in May. Haney last fought on November 22, where he became a three-weight world champion by defeating fellow American Brian Norman Jr via unanimous decision to claim the WBO world welterweight title. In an interview with K.O. Artist Sports, Shawn Porter did not hesitate to support Haney in a potential rematch, as discussions have arisen about the two facing each other again in the future. “I’m on record saying Devin beats Ryan in a rematch. I’m probably the only one that said Devin beats Ryan in a rematch.” Garcia is reportedly in the final stages of finalizing a deal to compete against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios next, with an official announcement anticipated in early next year.
