‘I got my ass beat’: Jake Paul speaks after Anthony Joshua loss

Jake Paul faced his second defeat in professional boxing this evening, getting knocked out in the sixth round by Anthony Joshua. However, the fact that Paul made it to the sixth round surprised many and was regarded as a moral victory for the YouTube star-turned-boxer. In a measured conversation with Ariel Helwani during the Netflix broadcast, Paul (13-2, 7 KO) acknowledged Joshua’s victory, offered no excuses for his defeat, and mentioned that he intends to take a break after dedicating six years to his boxing career. “Anthony’s a great fighter. I got my ass beat, but that’s what this sport’s about. I’m going to come back and keep on winning,” he stated. “(It was) a nice little ass-whoopin’ from one of the best to ever do it. I love this shit and I’m going to return to claim a world championship belt at some point.” At 28 years old, Paul mentioned he believes he may have a broken jaw, and he spat blood onto the canvas during his interview. He expressed that he was not surprised he reached the sixth round with Joshua. “I just got tired, to be honest. It was just so much, handling his weight. I think if I could have had better cardio, I could have maintained it and kept on fighting. But he did amazing, he hits really hard. I just did my personal best.” Paul assured that he “for sure” plans to continue boxing and aims for a cruiserweight world title. He refrained from specifying any opponent or calling anyone out.
