West Ham: It’s not over yet says Nuno
West Ham’s manager Nuno Espirito Santo called on supporters to maintain their belief after the team fell seven points behind in the Premier League relegation zone.
Morgan Gibbs-White scored an 89th-minute penalty, allowing Nottingham Forest to come back from a goal down and defeat the Hammers 2-1 at the London Stadium.
Since Nuno’s arrival, he has recorded only two victories, and his team appears to be losing ground.
The Hammers have now experienced 10 straight Premier League matches without a win, marking the first such streak since they went 11 games without victory between December 2006 and March 2007.
Nuno stated: “We have to keep pushing, keep believing, and continue our efforts. It’s not over.
“The margins were close, and we had a goal disallowed that could have put us up 2-0.
“There were many incidents involving the penalty – it was a challenging match.
“I believe we did enough to earn the victory. The players put in tremendous effort. I think we deserved to win it.
“It’s difficult to make any requests of the fans. It’s hard to explain. We feel their frustration and sadness; we are in the same boat. What can we say? Keep supporting us. They demonstrated today that when the team gives their all, they receive back the support we require. Today the players showed that we’re committed to this fight.”
Forest appear to be in a solid position after their comeback win away from home, and manager Sean Dyche was rightfully satisfied.
He remarked: “It wasn’t a classic performance, but you have to find a way to secure the win.
“I’m delighted with the players’ mentality. It was a tricky match for both teams, with a lot of distractions around. To go down 1-0 and remain composed, delivering a second half that clinched the game is very gratifying.
“Such matches are always difficult. I’ve faced many of these challenging encounters. I’m pleased to have come out on the right side of it tonight, and the players earned it just about.”
